Golf
It turns out to be a three-way tie for the Northern Lakes Conference regular-season boys’ golf title.
Host Northridge earned a share of the league championship Thursday night by downing Warsaw and Concord in the NLC regular-season finale.
The Raiders fired a 156 to top the Tigers and Concord, who each shot 171 in the league triangular contested at Spring Meadow Valley in Middlebury. Warsaw defeated Concord on the fifth-man score as the tiebreaker.
The trio of Northridge, Warsaw and Plymouth all finish at 6-1 in NLC action.
The duo of Luke Johnson and Tommy Meier each shot a 42 to pace Warsaw Thursday evening.
Luke Delp came in with a 43, while Tim Rata shot 44 and Sam Yeager 45 for the Tigers.
Warsaw drops to 9-1 overall with its first loss of the season.
The Warsaw junior varsity wrapped up play with a pair of wins to finish at 8-2 overall and 6-1 in the NLC. The Tigers shot 182, while Northridge had a 193 and Concord a 206.
Jacob LaLonde of Warsaw tied for low honors with a 42. Chase Byron shot a 46, while Zach LaLonde and Brian Elliott each had a 47 and Cole Voss a 50 for the JV Tigers.
The Warsaw varsity will compete in the NLC Tournament on Saturday at the Pretty Lake Golf Club in Plymouth.
Softball
The Warsaw softball team rode a late surge to win its Northern Lakes Conference finale Thursday night.
The host Tigers scored five runs in the sixth inning to down Elkhart Memorial 9-7 in a league matchup.
Memorial led 6-4 before the Tigers rallied in the sixth to take the lead. The Chargers scored three times in both the third and sixth frames. Warsaw had a pair of runs in the second and fourth innings.
Warsaw outhit Memorial 12-8 with each team committing five errors in the game.
The trio of Saylor Bradley, Lauren Shaffner and Kalie Keener each drove in two runs to lead Warsaw.
The trio of Courtney Chookie, Abby Glass and Adara Frey each had two hits for the winners. Glass, along with Frey and Shaffner each had a double in the win.
Chookie notched the pitching win as she had four strikeouts and four walks.
Cadence Lee had a home run and three RBI to lead Memorial.
Warsaw improves to 11-11 overall and finishes 7-7 in NLC action.
Warsaw hosts Tippecanoe Valley Friday night and plays at Manchester Saturday night to conclude the regular season. The Tigers then face Goshen next Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the second semifinal game of the Class 4-A Elkhart Central Sectional.
Baseball
The Warsaw baseball team wrapped up conference play with a 13-2 league loss at Elkhart Memorial.
The hosts scored four times in the first inning to take control en route to the five-inning Northern Lakes Conference victory.
Memorial outhit the Tigers 14-4 in the contest with Justin Walter picking up the pitching win for the home team.
The quartet of Matt Shoemaker, Bryce Sensibaugh, Alex Miller and Braxton Tennant each had one hit for Warsaw. Ian Glogovsky took the pitching loss for the Tigers.
Warsaw drops to 7-18 overall and finishes at 4-10 in NLC play.
The Warsaw junior varsity put the exclamation point on an undefeated conference season with an 11-0 win.
Jacob Hutcherson had a hit and two RBI as the JV squad improved to 18-7 and finished 14-0 in league action. The trio of Noah Burgh, Gage Lyon and Josh Ehrlinger each had a hit and an RBI for the winners.
Joe Wilkinson notched the pitching win for the JV Tigers.
Warsaw hosts its own Tiger Tournament Saturday at 10 a.m. The Tigers then wrap up their regular season by hosting Elkhart Central Monday evening. Warsaw will then face Central again next Thursday night in the Class 4-A Elkhart Memorial Sectional.
