PIERCETON — In an era when growing up on a farm isn’t as common as it used to be, more than 200 children were given a taste of farm life during Mini-Farm Day Monday, May 15. The event, now in its 39th year, is offered by the Pierceton Hayseeds 4-H Club and was held at the Roger Studebaker farm west of Pierceton.

There were approximately 213 children from Sonshine Preschool in North Webster, Pierceton Presby Preschool, Pierceton Elementary, North Webster Elementary and South Whitley Elementary. The event was for preschool and kindergarten age children and exposes them, along with some parents, guardians and teachers, to a few of the many aspects of life on the farm.

There were a variety of animals, farm machinery and a nature walk. At the end of the walk, the participants enjoyed milk and cookies while sitting on a bale of straw. A highlight of the day was milking a goat and its babies.

The event began at 8:30 a.m. and went until 2:30 p.m. Pierceton Hayseeds had 26 members in attendance and for one day became educators.

Nancy Reiff, Casey Pequignot and Holly Ousley are the adult leaders of the Pierceton Hayseeds 4-H Club.
