SILVER LAKE —  Saturday, May 13, the Silver Lake Volunteer Fire Department will host their third annual auction fundraiser. The event is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. and end at 7 p.m.

The meal will include sloppy joe sandwiches, hotdogs, potato salad, chips and drinks. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 12 and under.

Auction will be conducted by Metzger Property Services LLC, North Manchester. Payment options include cash, credit cards and checks.

Items up for bid include, but are not limited to, tickets to Kings Island, Shedd Aquarium, Fort Wayne Komets, Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo, tee shirts, John Deere pedal tractor, a Wabash Valley picnic table, and a variety of gift certificates.

Silver Lake Volunteer Fire Department reports their goal is to raise $4,000 from Saturday’s activities. They have received over $5,500 in donations. Proceeds from Saturday’s events will go toward the purchase of a light tower.

Adequate lighting can be a contributing factor in the success or failure of a rescue operation. Light fixtures mounted on emergency vehicles provide the lighting during nighttime incidents.

Once an immediate fire crisis is under control, there is still potential danger which requires investigation and cleanup. Investigation and cleanup crews working at a nighttime emergency scene can literally be left in the dark if another emergency arises that requires the vehicle providing the lighting to leave.

Although many fire departments have rented or borrowed portable light towers from time to time, more departments are starting to realize the benefit of owning their own towers.

Established in 1900, Silver Lake Volunteer Fire Department provides fire and rescue protection to Silver Lake and Lake Township.
