
KNOX – A banner day Thursday for the Triton girls tennis team, which claimed the team championship as well as two individual titles at the Hoosier North Athletic Conference Championships.
Triton stood tallest of the four teams in the tournament, besting Knox, North Judson and LaVille as tournament champions for the second straight season.
Winning titles for the Lady Trojans were Kolbie Mason at one singles, who beat Hannah Lueth of Knox in a three-setter. Lueth took set one 6-3, Mason then fighting back to win 6-1 in the second and rolling 6-0 in the third to win the conference bragging rights. The one doubles team of Hannah Wanemacher and Emma Ross finished off a perfect HNAC run in 2017 with a 6-0, 6-1 romp of Knox’s Maria Hasneri and Sommer Shepherd.
Quinn Downing was second in the two singles grid, losing to Knox’s Shelby Faverty by a three and two count. Triton’s other two courts took third, with Siera Sauer beating Judson’s Kayla Ross 10-5 and Kendra Morris and Mindi Dreibelbis getting past Judson’s Layren Stargell and Carina Kolasa 10-7.
The HNAC All-Conference Team for 2017 includes Mason, Faverty, Knox’s Cameron McGowan, Wanemacher and Ross, and LaVille’s Savannah Lucas and Emily Cain.
