Wawasee Softball: Late Burst Gets Wawasee Past Memorial

SYRACUSE – The combination of a big inning plus a big night in the circle helped Wawasee to a 9-0 over Elkhart Memorial Friday in Northern Lakes Conference softball.
A six-run fifth inning got Wawasee the separation it needed from Memorial, which trailed just 1-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth. Kayla White had the big blow, a two-run single to start the train in the fifth and Madie Wilson added an RBI groundout. Two Charger errors allowed two runs to score.
And with the way Amber Lemberg was pitching, that was more than enough.
The senior tossed one of the best games of her career, allowing just one hit in the first inning and one walk, otherwise Memorial got nothing. Lemberg struck out 11 for her first shutout of the season.
White would finish with three hits and three RBIs while Graceanne Kerlin and Bethany Flannery each had two hits and an RBI apiece. Ale Brito added two hits and two runs scored.
Wawasee sits at 16-3 and 9-0 in the NLC.
