Warsaw Tennis: Tigers Soar Past Eagles

Warsaw SportsCULVER – The Warsaw girls tennis team picked up a 4-1 win over host Culver Academy Thursday night.

The Tigers rolled to a pair of singles wins and then posted a pair of comeback victories in three sets in the non-conference match.

The tandem of juniors Liza Lewis and Ella Knight each had dominating wins in singles play to pace the Tigers.

Lewis posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles action and Knight notched a win by the identical score at No. 2 singles play.

Alyssa Zellers recorded a 4-6, 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles play for the Tigers.

The No. 1 Warsaw doubles team of Colette Smith and Athena Schlitt rallied for a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory.

The lone point for the host Eagles came at No. 2 doubles as Maddie Rahe and Gabrille Maiolo outlasted Rachel Boyle and Amy Herendeen 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-5).

Warsaw won 4-1 in junior varsity action. Winners for the Tigers were Libby Jenkins, Izzy Ray and Reagan Merchant in singles play and the doubles team of Sophie Schlitt and Maddie Ray.

Warsaw improves to 9-3 on the season in varsity action. The Tigers host the NLC JV Tournament Saturday. Warsaw then finishes out league play at Goshen on Monday evening. The Tigers will then host the NLC Tournament May 10-12.
