Girls Tennis
Elkhart Memorial steamrolled Wawasee, 5-0, in Northern Lakes Conference tennis Tuesday afternoon.
No. 1 singles stud Krystal Grubb continued to roll undefeated in conference play with a 6-0, 6-0 result over Meg Heinisch. Hannah Hakim and Eva Morales added straight set wins in singles play with Hakim a three and one winner over Peyton Rookstool and Morales 7-5, 6-3 against Elizabeth Kleopfer.
Layla Jojo and Maggie Dickerson handed Kendra Doerr and Kabrea Rostochak their first loss in NLC play witha 6-4, 6-1 result. At two doubles, Makennzie Williams and Meagan Huys battled back from a 6-4 first set loss to Taylor Mock and Courtney Larson to win the court 6-3, 6-1 to complete the sweep.
Wawasee got singles wins from Brianna Haessig and Ashley Rose in JV contests, but the Lady Warriors dropped four other matchups with Memorial.
Wawasee settles at 7-9 overall and 2-3 in the conference and will visit NorthWood on Thursday to continue NLC play.
Girls Track
Wawasee concluded its NLC round robin 1-6 after a pair of losses Tuesday at Elkhart Memorial and with Northridge.
Memorial took two, beating Wawasee 91.5-35.5 and Northridge 75-59, while Northridge got the split, beating Wawasee 86-46.
All of the Wawasee top efforts came in the field events, where the Lady Warriors took three firsts. Jada Parzygnot took on one of the other NLC contenders in pole vault in Northridge’s Rylee Dahlman and both went 9-6, Parzygnot getting there first for honors. Hannah-Marie Lamle went 17-4 to easily win long jump and Alexis Mangas sent the discus 108-10.5.
Lamle had Wawasee’s only runner-up results, going 17.12 in the 100 hurdles to finish behind Ridge’s Emily Wargo at 16.82 and 51.85 to get edged by Memorial’s Johntella Wiggins, who crossed at 51.81.
Wawasee will compete in Saturday’s Goshen Relays before turning to the NLC Championships next Tuesday at Warsaw.
