Council Takes No Issue On Smoke Complaint
Syracuse —During the Syracuse Town Council meeting April 18, Shirley Moore, landlord for Todd Ramer, owner of All Fired Up, the recently opened barbecue restaurant in town, asked the council if there was still a problem with the smoke from the restaurant. Tom Hoover, town council president, stated the matter had been resolved.
At the March council meeting, attorney Jack Birch came before the council requesting help. He was representing several business owners who were complaining about the amount of smoke coming from All Fired Up, as the restaurant had three to four smokers in the back.
The council requested Henry DeJulia, town manager, to facilitate a meeting with a few members of the council, Ramer and those complaining.
Hoover stated a meeting was held with himself, councilman Bill Musser, DeJulia, Ramer, his father Gary, John Stout who owns the business next door and lives in an apartment above his business, Moore and attorney Steve Snyder.
After that meeting, the council sent Birch a letter stating the council was electing not to take any action at this time. Hoover explained the council determined several places across the country have barbecue restaurants and no one’s complaining about the smoke.
Hoover, hearing complaints about the smoke earlier this year, took it upon himself to check in at 13 local businesses near All Fired Up to ask if the smoke was a problem. He did not receive one complaint at the time.
After Birch made his appearance at the council meeting in March, Hoover took it upon himself to go by All Fired Up to see how the smoke drifted and couldn’t see a problem.
“If the business owners (in the area) and customers are happy, I don’t know what they (Birch’s clients) can complain about,” Hoover said.
