SYRACUSE – With the clock ticking on the regular season, adjustments were key in the Northern Lakes Conference girls track triangle with Warsaw, NorthWood and host Wawasee.

The Lady Tigers had no trouble win claiming another pair of team wins, smashing Wawasee 105-27 and NorthWood 112-20. Wawasee took the split, beating NorthWood 74-54.

The overall talent and depth of Warsaw again allowed it to stay well ahead of Wawasee and NorthWood on the track. Ten of the 16 events went Warsaw’s way, led by Abbi Curtis’ wins in the 100 (12.85) and the 200 (26.39). Warsaw also picked up wins in all three relays, the opening 4×800 (9:55.71), the 4×100 (50.08) and the concluding 4×400 (4:05.63).

Warsaw’s distance was again on display, with Charlene Orr taking the 3,200 (11:57.71), Dayton Groninger holding off teammate Mia Beckham in the 1,600 (5:25.51) and Beckham in the 800 (2:24.54).

Page Desenberg was thrilled to PR in the shot put at 33-11 and Alexie Day also raised the bar in high jump, going 5-3 for the win.

The numbers on the sheets are starting to stand out to Tiger head coach Matt Thacker, who felt his team responded to the bell once again.

“We’ve gone through most of the conference now, and seeing the results, I think we’ll be strong going into conference and sectional,” Thacker said. “It’s very positive to see going into the tournaments, but you never know. It’s competition and anything can happen at any time. You can’t be complacent, you can’t be overconfident. You have to remain humble and work hard. Hopefully things will work out. We’ve hit some goals early, and hopefully we can hit some bigger goals later on.”

Wawasee continued to show well in the field, with Jada Parzygnot winning the pole vault at 9-6, Hannah-Marie Lamle soaring 17-3 and Alexis Manges taking the discus at 113-7.5.

Lamle would also claim the 100 and 300 hurdles events at 17.18 and 50.37.

NorthWood’s Erica Stutsman had the lone Panther breakthrough in the 400 at 59.41.

“We are pleased at the progress our field events are making,” said Wawasee head coach Scott Lancaster. “Our top end athletes like Manges, Lamle, and Parzygnot continue to get better and more consistent. They are doing the things right now that will help them compete for a title at the NLC’s. I think those three will be in the mix at the NLC meet, it is just a matter of making the most of the moment when it comes.”

Warsaw moves to 6-0 in the NLC and looks to wrap up the regular season title next Tuesday at Plymouth. The Lady Tigers are shooting for its 12th conference title at the NLC meet May 9. Wawasee gets its first win in conference to get to 1-4 with one more dual to go at Memorial and Northridge and NorthWood drops to 0-5 with Goshen and Concord left.
