NorthWood Sports Wrap: April 17
The NorthWood softball team dropped a 3-1 final to Concord in Northern Lakes Conference play.
Visiting Concord plated a pair of runs in the eighth inning to claim the league win.
Hannah Stickley turned in a strong pitching performance for the Panthers. Gracie Clark had two hits and Alexis Klutz a double for NorthWood.
The Panthers, who are 3-3, host Northridge in another NLC contest Wednesday evening.
Boys Golf
The NorthWood boys golf team dropped a non-conference match to Fairfield.
The Falcons topped the Panthers 160-168 in action at the Meadow Valley course in Middlebury.
Caleb Lung tied for medalist honors in pacing the Panthers with a 39.
Sean Hogan shot a 40 and Nick Sherk a 44 for NorthWood. Randy Kauffman finished with a 45 and Taylor Weiland a 53 for the Panthers.
Isaiah Brown and Wynton Edwards each shot a 39 for the Falcons, who improve to 7-0.
Fairfiel won the junior varsity match 183-197.
NorthWood hosts Elkhart Central Thursday night in Nappanee.
Baseball
The NorthWood baseball team opened Northern Lakes Conference play with a 7-2 win over Concord.
Payton Bear led the Panthers with three hits, including double and a triple, and two RBI. Vincent Herschberger had two hits, scored twice and stole three bases.
Drake Gongwer notched the pitching win and had seven strikeouts.
NorthWood (6-1) plays at Northridge Wednesday.
