Churches in the Syracuse Wawasee Area Ministerial Association will collaborate to hold two communitywide Holy Week services Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

The Good Friday service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 14, at Wawasee Community Bible Church, 2035 E. 1300N, Milford.

The order of service includes singing, Scripture readings, a brief message, communion and a short video. The centerpiece of the service will be an individualized exercise by the attendees.

“At different places around the Worship Center will be large pieces of wood on tables with hammers and nails,” said Josh Weiland, the church’s pastor.

“As each person enters, they will receive a small card that says ‘Jesus died for …’ and will be encouraged to put their name or sin they struggle with on it. Along with communion, everyone will be free to go and nail that card to the cross.

“At the same time, we’ll celebrate communion by the method of intinction. People will come forward, grab a piece of bread and dip it in the grape juice,” said Weiland. “This will be an extended time of reflection and the worship team will be leading in song during this time.”

SWAMA is also conducting an Easter sunrise service at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, April 16, in the Oakwood Hilltop Conference Center at Oakwood Park, 702 E. Lake View Road, Syracuse.

Pastor Pat Park of Wawasee Heights Baptist Church in Syracuse, will deliver the sermon.

Gospel singer Janet Norris will perform during the service.

Norris, a South Bend native, bested 300 other contestants to win the 2014 Michiana’s Rising Start competition sponsored by WNIT.

She recently won a national competition sponsored by AARP, singing her way to the crown over 1,300 rivals. The final performance was hosted in Miami. Contest judges included Kenny Loggins, Chaka Khan and Emilio Estefan.

She has performed in Detroit, Los Angeles, Chicago, Indianapolis, Mexico, Haiti and London.
