SYRACUSE – After an opening week of lopsided wins, Wawasee saw an opponent stun it with a huge inning.
After outscoring its first two opponents 45-8, Wawasee gave up a shocking eight runs in the top of the seventh inning of an eventual 10-6 loss to East Noble Monday night.
Wawasee surrendered seven hits in the seventh, including a double and two triples, as the Knights turned a 4-2 deficit into a 10-4 lead. Trey Bruce and Zach Haefer each had the big blows in the inning, Bruce doubling home two runs and Haefer tripling in two more. Bruce also had an RBI double earlier in the game.
The Warriors plated three runs in the first, Gavin Barker with an RBI single amongst the damage. Spencer Prescott drove Barker home with a single in the sixth, the Warriors looking well on its way with a 4-2 lead.
Wawasee would get two back in the seventh on RBIs from Jacob Garcia and Barker, but the damage had already been done.
Wawasee drops to 2-1 overall with another home matchup up Tuesday against Whitko.
