Several local Eagle Scouts were recognized at the Kosciusko County Commissioners meeting this morning.

The Eagle Scouts are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Eagle Scout award in the United States. Since it was first awarded in 1912, more than 2 million young men have achieved the Boy Scouts of America’s highest rank. The local scout troop was recognized for having its 100th Eagle Scout Award members.

Troop leader Richard McCleary attended the meeting with three local Eagle Scouts; three Eagle Scouts could not attend the meeting. McCleary has been a troop leader for over 35 years.

County commissioner Bob Conley noted that he was also Boy Scout growing up and praised the young men for their high achievement.

In other county news, various companies submitted monetary bids for county highway supplies for next year. Over 35 bids were opened by county attorney Mike Miner. The bids are for supplies, such as sand, diesel fuel, gravel, timber, limestone, asphalt, chloride and various bridge components.

Scott Tilden, county highway superintendent, will review the bids and recommend an awarding of the most cost effective and comprehensive bid at the Nov. 20 commissioners meeting.

The roundabout on Old U.S. 30 and Zimmer Road in Warsaw opened last Friday, said county administrator Ron Robinson. It’s the second roundabout for Old U.S. 30; the other one is located at Fox Farm Road in Warsaw.

Robinson also noted the county employees’ annual Christmas party will be Dec. 18 at the Justice Building.

Commissioners are president Bob Conley, Brad Jackson and Ron Truex. The next meeting will be at 9 a.m. Nov. 20, at the county courthouse in Warsaw.
