Crossroads League SportsA pair of former area prep basketball standouts, Paul Marandet and Clay Yeo, are among the players honored today by the Crossroads League.

Marandet, a former star at WCHS, was named to the All-Crossroads League third team for the 2016-17 season. The Spring Arbor University freshman guard is averaging 12.6 points and 3.2 rebounds for game.

Marandet, who helped Warsaw post a 25-2 mark with conference, sectional and regional championships a year ago, leads his team at 4.6 assists per game. He is shooting 45 percent overall from the field, including 45 percent from 3-point range and 83.8 percent from the free throw line.

Marandet, who has started 28 games this season, was also named to the All-Freshman Team for the conference. Spring Arbor is 18-13 and plays at Bethel College Saturday at 3 p.m. in a semifinal game of the league tournament.

Yeo, who was an Indiana All-Star while at Triton High School, earned second team all-league honors. The Bethel senior guard is averaging 14 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.

Yeo has returned to action after missing about six weeks of the season after suffering a knee injury in November. He is shooting 52 percent overall from the field, including 31 percent from distance, and 78.7 percent from the line.

Yeo, who began his collegiate career at Valparaiso University, was the top scorer for the Pilots each of the past two seasons. Yeo, who returned to the court in early January, has helped the No. 3 ranked Pilots to a 27-4 mark. Bethel won the Crossroads League regular season title at 16-2.

Bethel College coach Mike Lightfoot was named the Crossroads League Coach of the Year. Lightfoot announced last month that this would be his final season in charge of the Pilots. Lightfoot has won 790 games at Bethel during his Hall of Fame Career with a total of seven national championships.

Caleb Oetjen of Bethel and Lane Mahurin of Indiana Wesleyan were named Players of the Year in the league.

Bob Peters of Indiana Wesleyan earned Defensive Player of the Year honors and Mason Degenkolb of Talor was the Newcomer of the Year.

The first team included Oetjen, Mahurin and Peters, along with Mike Bush of Huntington and Bryce Lienhoop of Saint Francis.
