WARSAW — A Warsaw man was arrested after he knocked a victim unconscious with a baseball bat.

Michael Angel Islas, 57, 947 E. Sheridan Street, Warsaw, is being charged with battery while armed with a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony.
On Jan. 15, officers with the Warsaw Police Department responded to a battery in which the victim was unconscious in Warsaw. When officers arrived, they spoke with Islas who advised that the victim was in an upstairs bedroom.
The victim’s girlfriend advised that she and the victim had been arguing and she asked the victim to leave. When he would not leave, she called for Islas. According to the victim’s girlfriend, Islas came into the room with a baseball bat in his hands and shoved the victim. The victim then shoved Islas back and Islas hit him in the head with the bat, knocking him unconscious.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Islas then mentioned that the victim was breathing and that he would be fine.
Islas told officers that he thought the victim was battering the female and that’s why the female had yelled for him. Islas admitted to hitting the victim with the baseball bat but would not tell officers where the bat was located.
Emergency Medical Technicians transported the victim to Kosciusko Community Hospital for treatment. Officers spoke with the victim at the hospital. He advised he felt pain after being struck but could not remember anything after that. Officers observed a large, red welt on the left side of the victim’s forehead.
Islas was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail with a $10,250 surety and cash bond.
