WARSAW — The Committee to Commemorate Martin Luther King is proud to announce its third annual Black History Month Art Display. 2017’s display will again be hosted by the Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts and will feature student artwork from Warsaw Community Schools celebrating the life and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

A total of 125 pieces of art produced by elementary, middle and high school students may be seen in the lobby of the Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts from Jan. 27 through March 3 during regular box office hours. February box office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

There are additional opportunities for the public to see the exhibit as they attend programming at the theatre. Country artist Phil Vassar takes the 360-degree stage on Feb. 10 and Center Street Community Theatre presents “The Curious Savage” on weekends Feb. 17 to 26. The Wagon Wheel will also be hosting an open house for students, parents and teachers from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m on Feb. 2.

“Warsaw Community Schools is happy to partner with the CCMLK and the Wagon Wheel again this year to provide this opportunity to exhibit artwork by our students,” said Dr. David Hoffert, Superintendent of Warsaw Community Schools. “We hope this new tradition continues in the coming years as a way to celebrate not only Dr. King, but also the entirety of Black History Month.”

Black History Month was first recognized by the U.S. government in 1976. February serves as a period of remembrance to honor influential African-Americans throughout history and encourage the continued practice of human equality and civil rights in our country.
