SYRACUSE — Brandon L. Bickel, 32, Nappanee, was flown to Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, with injuries to his legs, chest and face following a one-vehicle accident. The accident was at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, on US 6, west of Technology Way, north of Syracuse.

A passenger in his vehicle was not injured.

Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department reported Bickel was traveling east on US 6 at a high rate of speed when his vehicle left the roadway for no apparent reason and collided with a tree. The case is pending further investigation.

Syracuse Police, Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Turkey Creek Township Fire Department and EMS,  Benton Township Fire Department and Lutheran EMS responded. A landing zone was set up in the Syracuse Tech Park, near the scene.

US 6 was shut down until the investigation was complete and the vehicle removed from the scene.
