WARSAW — A car ended up under the trailer of a semi. Witnesses said the driver ran a red light on Monday, Jan. 23.
The accident took place around 8:45 a.m. at the intersection of US 30 and North CR 150W, Warsaw. Phyllis Harris, 84, Old Road 30, Warsaw, was driving her Chevrolet Malibu in the left turn lane of eastbound US 30. A witness stated she saw Harris enter the intersection while the light was red. Her Malibu then collided with the trailer of a semi.
The semi was being driven by Steve Gordon, 48, Columbus, Ohio. Gordon stated he was traveling westbound on US 30. As he was entering the intersection he saw the Malibu turning left even though he had a green light westbound. Gordon stated he saw that the car was going to collide with his trailer so he attempted to veer right, but failed to avoid the collision.
Harris was unable to give a statement because after being extracted from her vehicle she was transported to Lutheran Hospital Fort Wayne by Lutheran EMS. Harris is listed in good condition.
Debris from the collision did cause damage to a witnesses’ vehicle. The total damages are estimated at $50,000.
