Shirley Swartz, 81, Warsaw, passed away at 10:53 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017 in Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.

On March 6, 1935, she was born in Warsaw, to John and Lillian (Heisler) Pifer.

She was united in marriage to John R. Swartz on June 30, 1966 in Warsaw. He preceded her in death Feb. 20, 1997.

A lifetime resident of Warsaw, Shirley was a graduate of Warsaw High School, Class of 1953.  She worked for Warsaw Community High School as the cafeteria manager and food service.  She retired in 2011.  She was a member of Walnut Creek United Methodist Church, Warsaw where she was also on the church board.  Shirley was a very sociable person and was active with the Salvation Army, volunteered at the police academy and was on the board at Wagon Wheel Theater, Warsaw.

Shirley is survived by two daughters: Tara (and spouse Jason) Strickler, Warsaw; and Erika (and spouse Greg) Hollar, Warsaw; five grandchildren, Blake, Chandler and Taylor Strickler and Levi and Zoey Hollar; her sister, Helen Petro, Asheville, N.C.; her brother, Robert Pifer, Nappanee; and several nephews and nieces.  Shirley was also preceded in death by her parents.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23 in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw with Chaplain Forrest Tabor officiating.  Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Visitation hours will be from 1–5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, in the funeral chapel.
