Kosciusko Area Bus Service’s new general manager was announced at this morning’s county commissioners meeting. Vickie Lootens was named the head of the county’s bus transportation system.

Lootens has been employed with Cardinal Services, which operates KABS, for the past seven years.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to serve Kosciusko County,” said Lootens, who also presented KABS’ third quarter claims report.

In other business, a scholarship was given to a 2012 Warsaw Community High School graduate during the meeting. Hollie Irwin received the $1,000 scholarship from David Bottorff, executive director of Association of Indiana Counties.

Irwin’s step-mother, Amy, works in the county’s area planning department. Irwin attends Manchester College. The scholarship is the only one that AIC grants in the state.

A couple’s property vacation request was approved by the commissioners. Randy and Connie Norman’s petition is for the vacation of a 16-foot by 120-foot long alleyway in Sevastopol.

A zoning ordinance request was denied. Mark Dillion’s request to rezone his property to commercial usage in Tippecanoe Township was not withdrawn in time so he requested that the petition be denied as his issue was resolved. The property is located at the corner of SR 13 and CR 350 North.

Commissioners also signed a $2,200 grant from the Department of Homeland Security for the purchase of equipment for ham radio operators. The group operates the equipment in the basement of the Justice Building.

Commissioners are President Bob Conley, Brad Jackson and Ron Truex. Due to the election on Nov. 6, the next meeting will be at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at the county courthouse in Warsaw.
