Doris L. Brandenburg, 85, of South Whitley, Ind., passed away at 10:58 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at the Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester, Ind., where she had been a resident since October. 

She was born Aug. 22, 1927, in Whitley County, Ind., to Clair C. Bishop and Georgia Doris (Rubrake) Bishop. Her formative years were spent in South Whitley. She graduated from South Whitley High School with the class of 1945. On March 7, 1947, she was united in marriage to Floyd R. Brandenburg. They made their home in South Whitley. Mr. Brandenburg died Aug. 29, 2009.

She was a full-time homemaker and raised their five children. Following her husband’s retirement, the couple traveled extensively throughout the United States.

Surviving relatives include five children: Thomas W. Brandenburg, Fort Wayne, Ind.; Judith Hall, Moxee, Wash.; Terry L. (Priscilla) Brandenburg, South Whitley; William C. (Elizabeth) Brandenburg, North Manchester; and Jeanna (John) Moore, Pierceton, Ind.; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a brother: Larry (Kay) Bishop, Huntington, Ind.; and a sister: Eunice (Roger) Ware, Indianapolis, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her husband; four brothers: Robert, Jack, Max and John Bishop; and a sister: Clarice Drake.

Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, at Smith and Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan 31, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the South Whitley Cemetery.
