Girls Basketball
Stepping out of conference, NorthWood’s girls basketball team kept the drum beating with a 64-15 drubbing of Jimtown in the battle for State Road 19 in Elkhart County.
NorthWood was electric throughout, but especially in the first half in taking a 31-4 lead at the break. Jimtown only made three baskets the entire game, and two of them came in the second half. Conversely, Jimtown was 8-8 from the free throw line.
The Panthers had 12 players score in the game, led by Nicole Flickinger with 13 point sand Savannah Feenstra with 12 points. Taitlyn Trenshaw had just three points, but had a career-high 10 assists, which she has had 19 assists in the past two games. Riley Hershberger added nine points in the victory.
NorthWood moves to 9-2 overall and are 2-0 in Northern Lakes Conference play, to which the Panthers will jump back in Saturday when it hosts Plymouth.
The NorthWood JV had its way with Jimtown in a 57-25 final. Leading the way for the 11-0 Black Swish were Maddy Payne with 20 points and Lexi Parisi with 11 points.
The NorthWood freshman lost a tough one to Plymouth 31-13. Cari Jenkins was the leading scorer for NorthWood with five points.
Boys Basketball
The freshman Panthers had its way with Plymouth in a 33-19 final. NorthWood took a 19-12 lead at the half and closed out strong, shutting Plymouth out in the final quarter.
Trent Edwards paced the Panthers with 10 points and four rebounds. Micah Phelps had seven points and nine rebounds, Brock Flickinger had six points, four rebounds and three assists and Toby Brenner grabbed three rebounds.
Wrestling
NorthWood lost to a tough Plymouth wrestling team, 42-25, in Northern Lakes Conference action at Plymouth.
Winners for the varsity Panthers included Mikey Edwards at 170, Cannon Yates at 285, Connor Barrett at 106, Hunter Warren at 126, Anthony Benson at 132 and Garrett Griffin at 152.
Junior Varsity winners for NorthWood included Noah Alexander at 145 and Nic Bontrager at 170.
NorthWood will look to right the conference ship with a visit to Concord Tuesday night.
Swimming
The scheduled meet between NorthWood and Mishawaka in Nappanee was cancelled and will not be made up. Mishawaka had a Northern Indiana Conference meet to make up and did so Thursday, nullifying the scheduled contest.
NorthWood will take its show to Northridge Saturday for a Northern Lakes Conference dual.
