SILVER LAKE — Silver Lake council members will now be able to share information easier and cut down on paper waste after the approval for purchasing chromebooks during the Town Council meeting held last night, Dec. 14.

Two different quotes were presented to the board for the purchasing of four new chromebooks. The board approved the more expensive quote after a presentation from Jama Brown of Van Ausdall & Farrar.

Brown explained that her company’s quote of $179 per unit was more expensive for a few reasons. The model provided would have a better processor, meaning the products would last longer. Van Ausdall & Farrar will also include training, virus protection and maintenance with the price.

After hearing all the benefits, the board approved the purchase of four chromebooks. Three will be used by council members and one will be used in the town office. It was discussed that the technology would only be used for town purposes and each council member should use a specific town email for any work done on the chromebooks.

In other news:

  • Council members signed the yearly nepotism certification, stating that they were not hiring family members and were abiding by state law.
  • The 2017 salary ordinance was approved. The salaries were approved at a previous meeting and this was just the approval of the associated ordinance.
  • Rita Sallee received a sewer adjustment of $31 for a leak that occurred and has since been fixed.
  • A resident appeared at the meeting for her neighbor regarding cars on the neighbor’s property. The cars have been on the property since spring and are non working and not properly registered. The neighbor presented that a potential solution of a fence would not be sufficient because the fence could only be 3 foot high due to a public alley next to the property. Council members acknowledged that a fence would not solve the problem and police were instructed to continue treating the vehicle problem as they see fit.
  • The Silver Lake year-end council meeting will be held at 5 p.m. on Dec. 27.
  • The next regular council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Jan. 11.
