Carl Whitworth Jr., 79, of Akron, Indiana and formerly of Merrillville, Ind. passed at 12:25 a.m., Saturday, Dec.10, 2016 at his residence.

He was born on July 4, 1937 in Clinton, Indiana to Carl and Bertha (Faitak) Whitworth.

He married on March 16, 1958 in Clinton, Indiana to Jean Ann Moore, who preceded on Nov. 2, 2009.

He worked for Inland Steel in East Chicago, Ind. for many years.

He was a graduate of Clinton High School. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved the Cubs and enjoyed watching them win the World Series.

Survivors include: a son, Carl Whitworth, Illinois and wife Lynn A., Merrillville, Indiana; two Grandsons, Carl Whitworth and wife Melissa, Galveston, Indiana; Jeremy and wife Nicole Whitworth, Akron, Indiana; granddaughter, Cassandra and husband Nigel Whitworth-Rowe, Walton, Indiana; daughter-in-Law, Sandra and husband Dale Whitworth-Miller, Peru, Indiana; 12 great grandchildren, Kelsey, Hailey, Taylor, Chase, Corynn, Jaxson, Kaiya, Alexis, Carter, Addison, Kamila and Owen; brother, Donald and wife Sue Whitworth, Crown Pointe, Indiana; nieces, Suzanne and Sherry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Bertha Whitworth; wife, Jean Ann Whitworth; son, Scott A. Whitworth Sr.; and grandson, Scott A. Whitworth Jr.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, 2016 at Hartzler Funeral Home 305 West Rochester Street Akron, Indiana. Burial will be at Akron Cemetery, Akron, Indiana

Friends and family may visit from 2 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016 at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, Ind.
