Anthony J. Hackworth, 29, 920 Anchorage Road, Warsaw, was originally charged with dealing meth, possession of meth, neglect of a dependent and maintaining a common nuisance.

Hackworth was caught creating meth in April, only four months after he had graduated from drug court for previous meth charges and was still on probation.

“I’m tired of coming in and out of this courtroom with my wife and kids who need better than this,” said Hackworth to the court. “I may not have taken my recovery very seriously the first time, but this time I am.”

Hackworth’s wife and three children were present during his sentencing. Almost in tears, he explained that he wasn’t sure they would be able to make it without him.

Judge Michael Reed was silent during Hackworth’s testimony. “I physically get sick having to sit up here and do this,” he said. “I’m at a loss.”

The judge accepted a plea agreement for dealing meth, a level 4 felony and neglect of a dependent, a level 6 felony. Hackworth was sentenced to five years at the Indiana Department of Correction for dealing meth and one year at the IDOC for neglect of a dependent. These two charges are to be served at the same time.

In regards to the probation violation, the judge sentenced Hackworth to a one year sentence to be served at the Kosciusko County Jail after his other charges.

This sentencing could result in up to six years served.

“Good luck Hackworth, let’s stay on course,” concluded Judge Reed. “You can do this, I know you can do this.”

After his sentencing, Hackworth said a tearful goodbye to his wife and children.
