WLFD Wins Chili Cook Off

The judge’s award for the 1st Annual Fireman’s Chili Cook Off went to Winona Lake Fire Department’s Dave Yotter and Gerald Ross for their 5 Bean Chili.

The competition was held this morning during the Kosciusko County Farmers Market in downtown Warsaw. Four departments took part in the chili cook off including Burket, Mentone, Warsaw and Winona Lake.

More than $300 was raised during the People’s Choice voting, with all proceeds going to the Hoosier Burn Camp. Mentone Fire Department – with a regular and hot chili prepared by Tammy Eads – won the People’s Choice Award.

Another award, for the hottest chili, went to Brooke Murphy of Warsaw Fire Department. His prize was a unique hand-crafted bowl of chili.

The Burket Fire Department was represented by Greg and Shannon Brazo who prepared a white chicken chili for the contest.

Judges for the first annual chili cook off were Daniel Boraker, winner of the 2010 Zimmer chili cook off; Debora Parker of Garden Catering, Warsaw; and Andrew Jones of Viand Chef Services, Warsaw.
