Triton Basketball: Heckaman Reaches Milestone, Trojans Win
UNION MILLS – Friday night became a memorable one for Adam Heckaman and the Triton girls basketball program. Heckaman won his 100th career game, leading the Lady Trojans to a 51-43 win Friday night at South Central.
Triton led after each of the quarters ended, taking a 15-9 lead after the first quarter and stretching it to double digits by halftime at 30-20. Nicole Sechrist had a lot to do with Triton’s quick lead, scoring seven of her 11 points in the first half.
A Sechrist three at the buzzer at the end of the third put Triton up 39-28, and free throw work by Hannah Wanemacher, who hit nine in the game, pushed Triton, and Heckaman to the milestone.
Wanemacher finished with a team-high 12 points. Courtney Jennings also scored 11 points, and Charlotte Morris added eight points. Triton earned its first win of the season, moving to 1-2 overall.
Heckaman sits at 100-82 in his ninth year as head coach of Triton. Heckaman is second all-time in career wins at Triton, having a long way to go to catch Mark Heeter’s 208 wins in his 14 years on the Triton bench.
In the JV game, Abigail Powell led the way with 12 points as the Triton team won its first game 43-30 over South Central. Delaney Groves and Whytnie Miller each finished with eight points for the Trojans.
Triton will host Bremen Tuesday night.
