Winona Lake — Last week, an event organized and hosted by students of Grace College’s Grace Opportunities for Adult Learners program  raised money for a local family. The students, along with their professor, Matt Metzger, wanted to live out the bible verse “Love God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself.”

This unique culinary event was held at Gordon Recreational Center.  It benefited Derek and Leanne Lavender.  Their story is on their blog here.

More than 100 friends, family and neighbors showed up to help raise funds for the Lavender family. The food was donated by Cerulean, Maple Leaf Farms, Metzger Trucking, Teresa Boyer, Walmart and La Consentida. In addition, Susan Grill and Midwest Rake donated items that sold in a silent auction. Overall, the event raised more than $2,600.
