WINONA LAKE — A Winona Lake man was sentenced this morning, Nov. 10, after he sent threatening, vulgar text messages and left voice mails on a female’s phone.

Gregory L. Reese, 37, 1202 Wooster Road, Winona Lake, was arrested for the incident in April. A Warsaw police officer met with the victim, the mother of Reese’s child, on April 16. She reported she had not been seeing Reese since August 2015. On April 16, she received several threatening and vulgar text messages and voicemails on her phone from Reese.

The officer listened to the voice mail from Reese and heard him state he would shoot her and saw a text message that included a photograph of two shotgun shells with a text stating “I got one for both of you.” The victim reported her daughter was present when Reese made the threatening statements and told her, “he was going to shoot her mommy.” The child was crying and upset over the threats.

Reese’s attorney, Benjamin Vanderpool addressed the court. “He’s accepted his responsibility. He made a stupid mistake and said some stupid things.”

Reese had no comment when Judge David Cates asked him if he wished to testify to the court. He pled guilty to intimidation, a level 6 felony.

Judge Cates sentenced Reese to two years of formal probation. Reese will also attend the Bowen Center for anger management. The no contact order with the victim was amended to allow for arrangement for parenting time with a third party.
