WARSAW — Kosciusko County Community Foundation has awarded Kosciusko Area Bus Service a grant in the amount of $10,000 to help pay for a new bus hitting the road this week. According to KABS General Manager Robert Cunningham, keeping the fleet of eight buses and vans updated is an ongoing challenge. The grant has made it possible to retire an old bus that was becoming harder more expensive to keep on the road due to maintenance and repairs.

Citing the need for the buses of our public transportation system to be safe and reliable, Cunningham explained that each bus provides approximately 6,800 rides each year. In the fiscal year just completed, KABS provided 49,424 rides around Kosciusko County, largely to people needing to get to work, medical appointments, and shopping.

KABS is a public transportation service, owned by the county and administered by Cardinal Services. The buses were purchased with funding from the Indiana Department of Transportation which provided 80 percent of the cost, while the KCCF award accounts for the remainder.
