WARSAW — Scott Anderson, Leesburg firefighter and president of Vivid Scenery, has gathered together a team of local residents to provide assistance to those who lost everything in Haiti.
Hurricane Matthew recently devastated most of the island country, and it is being considered the worst disaster in Haiti since the 2010 earthquake.
Scott’s sister, Lindsay Anderson, left her life in Warsaw to aid those in Haiti affected by the 2010 earthquake. Currently dedicating her life to aid and mission work in Haiti, she is providing a connection for Scott to meet with those most highly effected by the damaging storm.
“Right now we just need to get on the ground and set up a rapport with locals,” says Scott. “We’ll then go back down with teams of people to help in any way we can.”
Anderson partnered with John Fussle and the Warsaw Flying Club to fly out of Warsaw Airport and into Jeremie, Haiti. The team comprised of Scott, his brother Todd Anderson, Fussle and Eric Rockefeller left a little after midnight Saturday morning and touched down in Jeremie Saturday afternoon. This first trip is expected to take seven to 10 days, with future trips being planned at a later date.
The group is currently taking donations to help with Lindsay’s cause. “I think we, like any organization, need more funding to be able to do what we need to,” commented Scott.
Interest in the team’s GoFundMe can receive information here.
