WINONA LAKE — Several Wawasee High School students were among the volunteers who helped pack meals for the third annual Feed My Starving Children MobilePack event. Approximately 120 Wawasee students packed 34,344 meals — enough to feed nine children for a year — while volunteering Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the Grace College Gordon Student Recreation Center in Winona Lake.

Vitamins, vegetables, soy and rice were packed into meals to be shipped directly to help children in Haiti. Feed My Starving Children, a Christian non-profit organization, partnered with Allowing Christ To Shine for the event.

Lacy Helfers, one of the Warrior Leadership Committee students at Wawasee, is credited with coming up with the idea for Wawasee to participate in the project.

The initiative covers four days and will conclude Saturday, Oct. 8.
