WARSAW — Korean War veteran Doyle Munson was presented with the Veteran of the Month award by veteran’s affair officer Rich Maron at the County Commissioners meeting.

Doyle was born in Marshall County but his family moved back to Kosciusko County where they have lived for many years. Attending Claypool High School, Munson worked on his family farm where he was taught the value of hard work. After graduation, he worked at Power King, later Clausing, where he was a machinist.

In June of 1953, Munson was called to the army. Sworn in in Indianapolis, Munson found himself in basic training at Camp Pickett, Va. After his basic training, half of his company went to Korea and half went to the Army command in Germany.

Munson was with the group headed to Germany. He landed by troop ship in Germany and took a train to Zweibruken. Here Munson was assigned to Landstuhl, Germany, where his unit was the 8th evacuation hospital.

His background in machinery repair qualified him for a position on the maintenance squadron, and he served with them until May 1955.

Munson now lives in Kosciusko County with his wife, Elaine. He has two sons, Gary and Todd, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
