Plymouth, Fairfield Tennis Win Sectional Titles
The sectional streak rolls on for the Plymouth boys tennis program.
The Pilgrims blanked Bremen 5-0 Saturday in the championship match of the Bremen Sectional.
The sectional final was moved indoors to the Gable Tennis Complex at Culver Academy due to rain.
John Gerard rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles to pace the Pilgrims, who have now won 20 straight sectional titles.
Mitch Rose rallied for a 2-6, 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles and Clay Hilliard won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 to complete the singles sweep.
The duo of Nick Felke and Grant Clady won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles for Plymouth. The No. 2 doubles team of Tommy Holloway and Hudson Yoder posted a 6-0, 6-0 win for the champions.
Plymouth, now 11-8, advances to play Wabash on Tuesday at 5 p.m. in a regional semifinal match at Culver Academy. Warsaw will face host CMA in the other semifinal on Tuesday evening. The regional final is set for Wednesday with the winner returning to CMA on Saturday for the semistate.
Falcons Win At Goshen
The perfect season continued with a sectional title for Fairfield on Saturday.
The Falcons edged past host Goshen 3-2 in the title tilt of the Goshen Sectional.
Senior Isaac Miller rallied for a three-set win at No. 3 singles to give the undefeated Falcons the championship. Miller lost the first set 6-4 before winning the final two sets 6-3, 6-1.
Joel Mast posted a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles for Fairfield. The Falcons also got a 6-4, 6-2 win from the duo of Joel Kropf and Aaron Streit at No. 2 doubles.
Hugh Birky won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2 singles for Goshen. The No. 1 doubles team of Logan Troyer and Bobby Sessel won 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) for the hosts.
Fairfiled, now 21-0, advances to play Angola Tuesday in the Concord Regional. Westview will face host Concord in the other regional semifinal Tuesday. Concord topped Northridge 3-2 Saturday to win the Concord Sectional title. The regional final will be Wednesday at Concord.
