Freshman Football
The freshman football team fell short in a shootout with Northridge Thursday night. The visiting Raiders defeated Wawasee 41-40.
Ethan Hardy threw for three scores. Austin Baker hauled in two touchdowns. Lashawn Morris caught a score and also ran a kickoff back for a touchdown. Jesse Landeros also had a kick return for a score for the Warriors. Gabe Moore was credited with an interception.
Wawasee (1-1) will play at Concord next Thursday.
Volleyball
The varsity volleyball team fell to 0-2 in conference play on Thursday. The ladies traveled to Goshen and were swept 3-0 by the RedHawks, 25-20, 25-18, 25-17. Liz Hardy led the Warriors with four kills, Madie Wilson had 17 digs.
Wawasee is now 2-7 on the year overall and will play at Westview on Monday.
The JV team picked up another win to move to 9-3 with a 2-1 over Goshen. Adriene Gill led the team with 12 digs. Faith Swihart and Janae Hapner each had four kills.
The C-team fell to Goshen and Northridge Thursday evening.
Wawasee was led statistically by Tess Fancil who had seven kills, six digs, two aces and a block.
The C-team (4-5) does not play again until Thursday, September 22 at home with Warsaw.
Girls Golf
The girls golf team matched its season-low score in a win over Fremont. Wawasee shot a 184 to best Fremont’s 200.
Aubrey Schmeltz paced Wawasee with a 41. Madison Beaman shot a 45. Jadison Rostochak came in with a 47. Zoe White had a 55. Lesley Tayagua shot a 51 and Kabrea Rostochak rounded out the six-man score with a 61.
Wawasee (12-7) will play in the Northern Lakes Conference tournament this Saturday at McCormick Creek in Nappanee.
