Cubs Slugger Donates $2,500 To Young Cancer Patient
CHICAGO — Anthony Rizzo is known for slugging homers for the Chicago Cubs, but that can’t compare with the home run he hit for a child battling cancer.
Rizzo donated $2,500 to support a 22-month-old boy in Iowa who is fighting leukemia.
The Cubs first baseman wrote a letter to the family of Parker Hopkins, reflecting on his own cancer battle at the age of 18.
“This was the scariest time of my life…I believe that by staying positive, I actually felt better and ultimately won my battle against cancer. I know that you too can do the same,” Rizzo wrote.
It’s not the first time Rizzo has offered support for young cancer patients. NBC Chicago reports he is a regular visitor to Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago and has made donations and written letters to other families dealing with a cancer diagnosis.
