Dallas Jay Stouder, 82, Tippecanoe, passed away at 5 a.m. Aug. 30, 2016, in his home.

Dallas was born July 12, 1934, to Clarence and Bertha (Metzler) Stouder at home in Etna Green. He was born into a large family of 11 brothers and sisters and grew up in Etna Green his whole life.

Dallas was a member of the Etna Green Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon, Elder and Sunday school teacher and Bourbon American Legion, Post #424. He was a graduate of Etna High School, class of 1952. After graduation he worked at Studebakers, South Bend, Orthopedic Equipment Company and finally at Biomet, retiring in 1992.

He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Army. Dallas played sports in high school receiving many awards. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren excel in sports hardly ever missing a game. He became an Eagle Scout in 1952; inducted into the Kosciusko Basketball Hall of Fame, class of 2011; he was instrumental in starting the basketball Museum in Etna Green; bowling on Wednesday night leagues and was a huge Cubs and Notre Dame Fan. Other interests included: playing golf with his brothers; traveling with his wife; putting together jigsaw puzzles; and he loved to be “Mr. Fixit” fixing things and tinkering with things. Dallas also was a maker of a “fine wine” he always served on Christmas Eve. He will be greatly missed by all.

Dallas married Mary Ellen Freeman on June 12, 1960, in North Webster. She survives along with daughter: Pam (Bryan) Bidwell, Pierceton; and son: Jeff (Renee) Stouder, Bourbon; seven grandchildren: Derek Eby; Krista Howard; Matt Eby; Matt Tracy; Emily Bidwell; Lea Stouder; and Josh Pranger; five great-grandchildren; sister: Gloria (Bill) Stackhouse, Virginia; brothers: Dick (Janet) Stouder; and Jim (Serita) Stouder, Warsaw. Preceding in death were son: Robbie Stouder, in August; grandson: Caden Dallas Stouder; brothers and sisters: Robert; Cecil; Glen; Leonard; Velorus; Marion; and Donnabelle.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, to share memories in Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, Bourbon. A celebration of Dallas’s life will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, in the Etna Green Church of Christ with Pastor Jordan Ickes officiating.
