A 3-year-old Marshall County boy who was flown to a South Bend hospital Sunday afternoon after being crushed by what police are now saying was a headboard, has died from his injuries.

The accident happened at a home in the 12000 block of 4A Road. According to police, 3-year-old Malachi Palmer and an unidentified 5-year-old were playing and knocked over a headboard. Air ambulance scanner traffic noted the boy suffered cardiac arrest when the headboard – which was first identified as a marble countertop – fell on his head and chest.

The boy was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth then flown to a Fort Wayne hospital.
