Warsaw Sports Wrap: Aug. 22
Boys Tennis
Straight set wins on all five courts carried the Warsaw boys tennis team to a dominating shutout of Mishawaka Marian.
Colton Lind led the way for the Tigers with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles for the hosts.
Andrew Gauger and David Homme both rolled to singles wins too for the Tigers. Gauger posted a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 and Homme won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3.
The Tigers also took both of the doubles matches in fine form. The duo of Justin Stout and Ryan Wettschurack won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 and the pair of Hayden Steger and Spencer Britton notched a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 2.
Warsaw, which improves to 2-1 with the win, opens Northern Lakes Conference play Thursday at Elkhart Memorial at 5 p.m.
The Warsaw junior varsity beat Marian 5-0. Winning in singles play for the Tigers were Bailey Burt, Kyler Bartol, Caleb Williams and Nolan Knight. Also winning was the doubles team of Reuben Williams and Ethan Hoff.
Volleyball
The duo of Nikki Parrett and Alexie Day powered the Warsaw volleyball team to a 3-1 win at Homestead.
Parrett and Day each had 13 kills as the Tigers won 25-18, 20-25, 25-17, 25-16. Hanna Leach added a dozen kills for the winners.
Peugh and Parrett each had four aces, while Day and Rachel Yeager each had two. Kacy Bragg led the team with 41 assists. Peugh led the defense with 20 digs. Day had 15, while Bragg had five and Parrett and Yeager three each. Leach and Katie Swanson each had two blocks, while Day, Parrett and Bragg each added one.
Warsaw, now 4-3 on the season, returns to action Saturday in the Mishawaka Invitational.
The junior varsity team topped Huntington 25-18, 22-25, 15-8 to improve to 3-0. Emma Gelbaugh and Cassadi Colbert each had five kills, while Courtney Chookie, Kenzie Martz and Addie Dickerhoff each had four and Gwyn Bellamy three. Dickerhoff had 21 assists, while Gelbaugh had four aces, Colbert three and Dickerhoff and Chookie two each. Amy Herendeen led the defense with 15 digs, while Dickerhoff totaled 11 and Colbert nine. Bellamy and Kenzie Welk each had a block.
The freshman team topped Homestead 25-9, 25-10 to move to 4-0. Brooklyn Slone had seven kills, while Kaia Hummitch and Delaney Walters each had three. Katie Schmidt had nine aces and Sierra Derossett six. Schmidt had 16 assists and Allie McGuire had 12 digs, while Kyle Prater had 10, McKenna Hawblitzel eight and Schmidt and Derossett six each.
Freshman Boys Soccer
The Warsaw boys soccer freshman team lost a 3-0 final to the Argos junior varsity team.
