Kryder Veterinary Clinic had been treating the animal, named Phoenix, since it was found along the 200 Block of East Fox Street in South Bend.

Phoenix’s treatment had generated a following online.

Veterinarians were hopeful she would recover.
Despite the efforts of many of Kryder’s staff and a foster home, Phoenix ran into trouble Friday, Aug. 19.
South Bend Animal Control is investigating how Phoenix suffered the burns.
