SYRACUSE — The Wawasee tennis team picked up a victory in its season opener Tuesday evening. The match, originally scheduled for Monday and postponed due to weather, was well worth the wait for the Warriors. Wawasee swept the visiting Manchester Squires 5-0.
Nate Haines was the first two wrap things up as he downed Spence Trick 6-0, 6-0 on the No. 2 singles court. Nathan Perek enjoyed a 6-0, 6-0 win of his own at No. 3 singles. Dylan Staley had more of a challenge on his hands at No. 1 singles but still managed a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Luke Donathan.
On the doubles courts it was a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 1 dubs by Tim Conley and Evan Krueger. Mason Gray and Graham Perek disposed of Kyle Shepherd and Chase Porter at No. 2 doubles with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
Head coach Vince Rhodes was unavailable for comment Tuesday night.
