Foreman, Marty

Mrs. Martha Jane “Marty” Foreman, 91, Macy, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away at 2:48 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016, at Wynnfield Crossing, Rochester.

On Oct. 19, 1924, Marty was born in Howard County. She was the cherished daughter of George and Georgia Van Fossen Mikels. As one of four children she shared her childhood with two sisters and a brother. In 1942, Marty graduated from Kokomo High School.

In Howard County, Marty married the love of her life, Frederick Franklin Foreman on New Year’s Day 1944. They shared over 72 years of life’s adventures. From their union came two wonderful sons, Terry and Mike. The family tree continues to grow with the added blessings of three more generations.

Many will remember Marty waiting on them at Baxter Drugs or Schultz Brothers Dime Store. In her “spare” time she could be found at the bowling alley. As queen of the keglers, a member of five leagues, Marty continued bowling until she reached the age of 89. She and Fred enjoyed dancing to the music of the big bands.

Following Marty’s retirement, this vibrant and amazing lady organized and led the senior water aerobics for many years. She is remembered for her radiant warm smile, positive attitude, caring and compassion for her friends and neighbors.

Left to cherish Marty’s memories are her husband: Fred; two sons: Terry (Carol) Foreman, Macy; Mike (Becky) Foreman, Macy; seven grandchildren: Drew Foreman; Derick Foreman; Christy (Adam) Dopps; Nikki (Chuck) Evans; Teresa (Chris) Shakley; Lisa Titus; Shawn May; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Martha in death are her parents; two sisters: Mary Mikels; Dorothy Erlenbaugh; and a brother: Ross Mikels.

A celebration of the life of Martha Jane “Marty” Foreman will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, in the Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester, with Chaplain Teri White officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, and one hour prior to the service on Monday in the funeral home. Interment will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
