Warsaw Girls Golf: Tigers Just Off The Pace

PLYMOUTH – Warsaw officially opened play on the 2016-17 athletic season with its girls golf team taking part in the Plymouth Invite Wednesday afternoon. The nine-hole tourney at Pretty Lake Golf Club saw South Bend St. Joseph’s take the title while Warsaw came in third.
The tournament format had all five team members playing together and the best four scores on each hole produced the team’s final total. St. Joe concluded with a 182, Northridge had a 191 and Warsaw was at 193 as the top three teams.
Warsaw senior Madi Graham won medalist honors with a 38, beating second place Allison Coyne of St. Joe by four shots. Graham’s top moment came on the sixth hole where she sank a 12-foot birdie putt.
Rounding up the rest of Warsaw, Delaney Wihebrink shot a 51, Page Desenberg had a 55, Madelyn Ray posted a 56 and Izzy Ray came in with a 58.
Tippecanoe Valley also took part in the festivities in its first meet of the season and shot a 232 team score. Victoria Biddle had one of the finer rounds of the day, posting a 44. Blake McBrier shot a 59, followed by Makayla Sanbakken’s 62, Bethany Johnson’s 75 and Brianna McBrier’s 79.
Lakeland Christian Academy had one competitor, Abigail Fishel, active and shot a 60 for her nine holes.
Warsaw will start its home dual calendar Thursday morning at Stonehenge in hosting Chesterton and LaPorte at 10 a.m. while Tippecanoe Valley will open its home calendar at Round Barn Monday against Caston and Pioneer, a 5 p.m. start.
