Imogene Mavis
Imogene Mavis, 91, Auburn, died July 28, 2016, at Betz Nursing Home, Auburn.
She was born Aug. 8, 1924, in Hicksville, Ohio, to the late Quentin K. and Gladys F. Mavis.
She was a graduate of Auburn High School and then attended and graduated from Manchester College with a teaching degree. She started teaching music in the Akron Indiana School District and then moved to Waterloo High School which later became DeKalb High School. She retired from the DeKalb High School Music Department. She was a member of the Auburn First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Delta Kapp Gamma, DeKalb County Chapter Retired Teahers Association, Auburn Arts Commission, Women Band Directors National Association, Director of DeKalb County Home Extension Chorus for over 30 years, named DeKalb County Council on Aging 1994 Woman of the year, Dekalb Health Auxiliary and was instrumental in starting the Curiosity Shop.
Her home was a featured garden i the 2002 garden walk.
Surviving are one cousin: Betty Bevington, Saint Joe; and by extended family and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and lifelong best friend Mable F. Bevington.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1 at Pinnington Funeral and Cremation Services, Auburn, with the Rev. Wilbur Yates officiating. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Auburn. Calling will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
