Late Burst Helps Bees Win
SOUTH BEND – Burlington broke a scoreless tie with a three-run eighth inning as the Bees defeated the South Bend Cubs at Four Winds Field Thursday 3-1.
Preston Morrison gave South Bend a great chance to win the game by throwing six shutout innings lowering his ERA to 2.24.
Morrison got a no decision as the Cubs bats did little in the game as they were shutout over the first eight innings and scratched across a run in the ninth on Eloy Jimenez’s RBI ground out scoring Carlos Sepulveda.
The difference making inning was the eighth when the Bees scored three times off Cubs reliever Tyler Peitzmeier. Jordan Zimmerman put Burlington in front 1-0 on an RBI double. Michael Barash capped the inning with a 2-RBI single.
Burlington has now won a season high eight straight games. South Bend has lost three straight games in a row for the first time since early June.
