Packard Park crosswalkFORT WAYNE — A crosswalk on Fort Wayne’s near-south side has a rather melodic look now. A crosswalk at West Packard and Fairfield avenues was painted as piano keys.

The crosswalk at West Packard and Fairfield avenues, at Packard Park, was painted as piano keys on Sunday.

The Packard Area Planning Alliance spearheaded the project as a way to mark the location where the Packard Piano and Organ Company once stood. The company was established in 1871 where Packard Park is today, and produced pianos in Fort Wayne until just after the Great Depression, records showed.

The group also plans to install signage to detail the history of the Packard Piano and Organ Company.
