WARSAW — The 2016 Shaggy Memorial Demolition Derby

New this year was a trucks category. Other categories included gut and go, stock and modified. Cash prizes were awarded to first through fifth place

The crowd cheered as drivers ruthlessly pummeled one another’s vehicles in pursuit of the 2016 demolition derby champion title. Engines roared and backfired and tires spun, kicking dirt into the audience.

While a demolition derby may seem like chaos at times, there are actually many rules drivers must follow. For example, a deliberate, direct hit to another vehicle’s driver-side door could mean disqualification. Cars may not have any glass, which can shatter and injure the driver. Fuel tanks, fuel lines and other components are placed in the cars for maximum safety. All cars undergo an inspection prior to the derby to make sure they meet criteria.
