SOUTH BEND – After dealing with a pair of crushing losses over the weekend, Bowling Green righted itself a little Monday evening in a 10-3 win at South Bend.

The Hot Rods (46-41) used a six-run seventh inning to blow open what was just a 2-0 lead heading into the inning. Zacrey Law started the scoring in the seventh with an RBI single, then Kewby Meyer added a two-run single. Michael Russell made it 7-0 with a two-run triple and Peter Maris brought home another run with a single.

South Bend, which had responded time and again with rallies the past two days, did get a couple runs back with bases loaded walks by PJ Higgins and Eddy Martinez, but left the bases loaded in the seventh and two more on base in the fifth. The Cubs were just 1-11 in the game with runners in scoring position.

Bryant Flete added an RBI double in the eighth.

Jose Mujica (5-3) was very good for the Hot Rods, giving up just two hits and three walks in six innings, allowing no runs and striking out a pair.

Ryan Kellogg (3-6) took the loss but deserved better, giving up five hits and two earned runs in six innings.

The Cubs (54-34) will take Tuesday off before visiting Clinton Wednesday, a 7:30 p.m. start.
