The body found in a 55-gallon drum in Elkhart County Thursday afternoon has today been initially identified as that of 44-year-old Mark Miller.

Miller, the owner The Tattoo Shop in Elkhart, was reported missing two weeks ago. His body was identified by various tattoos and further confirmation of dental records and/or fingerprints are being conducted.

Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department investigators say a crew cleaning debris from the St. Joseph River near the Six Span Bridge located the body at approximately 4:02 p.m. yesterday. The barrel was found about 10 feet from the shoreline.

An autopsy was scheduled for this afternoon and officials say the death has been ruled a homicide, but have not provided a cause of death.

The investigation is ongoing.
