NORTH WEBSTER — Culminating four days of activities will be the annual Queen of Lakes Pageant, starting at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 25, in the North Wester Community Center. The evening competition will feature 17 young ladies vying for the title of the 2016 “Queen of Lakes.”
The pageant, sponsored by the North Webster Lioness and Lions Club, along with Shoop Sports and Youth Foundation Inc. is open each year to young ladies between the ages of 16-23, who are unmarried.
Each year the pageant competition follows the theme of the overall festival, which this year is Indiana Bicentennial, when it comes to float decorations and theme wear.
Over $5,000 in scholarship money and prizes will be awarded to the 2016 Queen of Lakes and her court. Contestants have an opportunity to win additional scholarship money, ranging from $250 to $750 for placing in the top three through the queen’s conveyance competition and The North Webster Lioness Club’s Community Service Award.
The contestants are judged in three areas: personal interview, theme wear and evening gown competition. Points in the theme wear and evening gown competition are based upon poise and self-confidence, stance and hand position, carriage and appearance. Points in the personal interview are based on attitude, ability to converse, friendliness, poise and self-confidence.
The 2016 Queen of Lakes will have the title for one year.
